HS-USA Conference 2006

"Treating Depression and Pain"

Seattle, Washington
June 15-17, 2006

HS Patients know that this disease is not just skin-deep. The most difficult issues to deal with are the associated depression and pain.

For our 2006 Conference in Seattle we learned from speakers who talked about the connection between chronic illness and depression, as well as new approaches to managing pain. We attended Yoga sessions and learned new techniques to control stress. But most of all - we made new friends and got to hug, laugh and cry with other people suffering from HS.

This was a wonderfully organized conference in beautiful Seattle, very informative for all who attended. Thanks to our sponsors, and hosts, the HS Northwest group and HS-USA.

Below we are providing materials from the conference for your reference:

Dr. Craig Sawchuk is a Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He  talked about the connection between chronic illness and depression. As a consulting provider for the outpatient Dermatology Service at the University of Washington, he came with very relevant expertise, and surprised his audience with his specific and deep knowledge of HS-related issues.
